Leta 1991 je v Suzuki Nigel Mansell po odstopu v 9. krogu na široko odprl vrata Ayrtonu Senni, ki je osvojil svoj tretji in hkrati zadnji naslov svetovnega prvaka. Brazilec je zmago na dirki za VN Japonske na koncu prepustil moštvenemu kolegu in dobremu prijatelju Gerhardu Bergerju. Alain Prost je dirko končal na četrtem mestu, hkrati pa je to bila Francozova zadnja dirka za Ferrari.
